Before you apply — check your UAN passbook

Log in to the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal and open your UAN passbook to confirm your current balance, KYC status (PAN, Aadhaar and bank account must all be verified) and employment history before initiating a claim.

Filing an online claim

From the "Online Services" menu, select "Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C & 10D)", verify your bank details, and choose the relevant form: Form 19 for full final settlement, Form 10C for pension withdrawal, or Form 31 for a partial/advance withdrawal against specific needs like medical treatment or a home purchase.

Waiting period and processing time

Full final settlement is only allowed after 2 months of unemployment (or on retirement); partial withdrawals for approved reasons don't have this wait. Once submitted, claims are typically processed within 15-20 days if KYC and employer approval are in order.

Common rejection reasons

Name mismatch between Aadhaar, PAN and the bank account; unverified KYC; and pending employer approval on the exit date are the three most common reasons claims bounce back. Fixing these before filing saves weeks of back-and-forth.

FAQs

Is EPF withdrawal taxable? Withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are tax-free; earlier withdrawals may attract TDS and tax at slab rate on the employer's contribution and interest portion.

Can I withdraw without employer approval? Since UAN-Aadhaar-bank seeding became mandatory, most claims can be submitted directly without employer digital signature, provided KYC is fully verified.
